Asda Downpatrick Superstore

Do Asda Downpatrick have a policy where they ask (almost) middle aged women for ID just for fun? I was in store today and was asked for ID for a bottle of wine, while also buying stuff for dinner, cleaning supplies and back to school stuff for my children. The lady who served me said ‘I’m sorry I know you’re obviously not under age but I have to ask you for ID’. I explained that I am 35 years old and was with my 13 year old daughter (having a 13 year old would be pretty impossible if I were under 18). She said again that she knew I wasn’t under age but she has to ask me for ID. Why? If you look at someone and know they are not under 25 why do you have to ask for ID? She told me I could try the self checkout and see if they would serve me?! How does that make sense? This is not the first time this has happened to me in this Asda but on this occasion I didn’t have my ID. My husband who is the same age as me has NEVER been asked for ID in this store. I left all the items (which came to over £50) and bought them in another shop. Which by the way didn’t ask me for ID. I think there needs to be a review of their policy.

When we went to the Asda in Downpatrick one of the sales team, Charlene, came to our aid at the self service till. She was very pleasant, helpful and engaging. Took care of us quickly and efficiently, leaving us happy with the service we received, ready to go back another day. Thank you Charlene for your sense of humour and patience. You helped to make our day.

"Beware the plastic bag police'! That's all I am saying. Horrible experience just trying to get a plastic bag in the basket self check out area. 4 staff standing around and I had to go to the til to ask for a bag. They seem more concerned about policing the bags than helping out. Need to do better asda Downpatrick.

The fruit and vegetables from this store are abysmal. Garlic sprouting on the shelves. Peppers moldy and slushing around in the packet. Marked as “Ready to eat” avocados that you’d need a chisel and a fork to consume if you dared. Terrible quality all around.

My 5* review is for "Christine", who delivers the click & Collect groceries in Downpatrick. I'm disabled, can't lift or hump groceries around. Christine always goes way above what is expected of her. Helps me everytime! Unlike some of the male employees doing her job - who just lean on the van moaning about bad backs, letting older/ less capable clients to get on with it!! Christine is always happy, bright & super helpful. I really can't thank her enough. The only good thing about the click & Collect service is Christine! ! I can't get up the huge ramp in situ, especially with a trolley. If Christine is late due to traffic I get notified, to stop me making a wasted journey, other drivers don't do that! She really is a fantastic asset & I appreciate her, very much. Shame she can't rub off some of her excellent customer service skill to the other drivers! Lucky to get a grunt out of the other drivers! Even more lucky to get any help out of them! Thank you Christine 💞🤩👏

This former Safeway/Morrisons Store has a large clothes section, less food selection and no longer with a petrol station. And more self service check-outs then customer sales assistant attended check-outs

Great if you enjoy chasing your trolley around the fruit and veg section - the floor is on a wonk so you can't leave it without it rolling across or down the aisle. Have anything in your trolley? Enjoy fighting against the slated floor trying to push it uphill and around corners. The store also just has a really poor layout and really poor selection of items. Rubbish.

Lovely store with the most amazing staff! I had a problem with my phone driving up from Dublin and the staff were so good to me helping to figure out how to get home and one member of staff,( I didn't get his name) but he managed to let me hotspot off his phone to help me out! Thank you so so much!! A brilliant team of staff here 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
