The Mango Tree

Fast service. Spacious restaurant. The food , was rather bland. I asked for my Danzak to be hot. I couldn't taste any heat at all. All in all. Quite nice.

We visited the Mango Tree while staying in Kirkby Stephen, we had the pickle tray, tandoori mixed grill, dansak and rice. It was fantastic, it was one of the best Indian meals I’ve had. Definitely worth a visit. Reasonably priced too.

We both had excellent meals. My chicken pakora starter was different from normal. Thin strips of chicken coated in breadcrumbs. Different but tasty. The main courses were rich and spicy without being too hot. All in all a top notch meal

Really nice meals with friendly service. Food was freshly cooked and was spiced deliciously. Reasonable prices.

Really disappointing experience. The curry was completely tasteless, lacked any real flavour or spice. The onion bhaji was so over-fried it was basically a rock—could barely bite into it. To top it off, the customer service was rude and unwelcoming. We tried to dine in but were told they were fully booked, despite the restaurant being half empty. We ended up ordering takeaway, and when we returned 30 minutes later, the place still had plenty of empty tables. Felt like they just didn’t want to serve us. Wouldn’t recommend.

Came here for Saturday evening meal. Lucky to get a table as it was pretty full at 7.30pm. Great selection of quite unusually dishes to choose from their special menu, so we selected some poppadoms and a main course each plus a beer. The service was excellent - fast and accurate, so received our meals quickly and the quality was also great. They did not do ice cream as a dessert, so you need to go elsewhere if you want this. Overall cost was around £25-30 per person, so quite good value.

From the reviews I thought that this restaurant would be good. Well what a disappointment. I ordered a vegetable Piza and from the description it sounded good. "An old forgotten classic" it was advertised at. Don't think so. It just tasted like chip shop curry sauce with potatoes, green beans and peas. Some of the onions were still raw. The basics of an Asian dish are plenty of well cooked onions. Not here. The pickle tray was also different. I had the normal, onions, mango, yoghurt (but not) and a red sauce. It just tasted like a tomato passata with some chilli in it. Not great. Would I go back or recommend, probably not. It's another one on the tourist trail, some don't really have to try. Excellent food and relaxing atmosphere. Very convenient for a dinner stop on a car journey.
