Ferneley’s Ice Cream (The Dairy Barn Café)

We stopped here for a coffee break during a cycling trip and were really impressed. It’s a wonderful spot to visit with family as well. The facilities and amenities are very clean, and the staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming. There’s plenty of seating available both indoors and outdoors. The cakes & ice cream is a must-try — fresh, full of flavour, and offering a great variety, each with its own unique taste. We’ll definitely be coming back!

Visited whilst passing. We had some of their ice cream at the MeltonMowbray food festival last October and promised we would visit during the summer. We were not disappointed. It’s easy to find, there’s plenty of car parking and there’s lots of seating inside and out. The main thing is the ice cream but we were hungry so went for something more substantial. Be aware the kitchen closes at 3pm so if you want more than ice cream get there before 3pm. We had the club sandwich (from the specials board), pancakes with bacon and maple syrup and a cheese and ham croissant (good quality gammon ham and mature cheddar cheese). We also tried a chocolate milkshake which was creamy (made using their own cows milk and ice cream). Everything was really top notch. The bacon was perfectly cooked and the chicken (in the sandwich) was noticeably tasty. The chips were like logs. Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The food might have been simple but it was real quality. We were all really impressed. And for dessert it had to be ice cream. The mint chocolate chip was a perfect mix of mint and dark chocolate chips. The honeycomb was smooth and creamy with the perfect honeycomb taste. But for us the star was Ferneley rocher. The taste was spot on. The food is well above your average “farm shop” or “garden centre” offering and if you’re in the neighbourhood I recommend you trying this place out.

Such a wonderful family friendly place to go for a day out or just an hour or two. Loads to do and so safe and comfortable for toddlers and dogs! We went for lunch (fresh and yummy), sat outside, our toddler walked around and let off steam, we had ice cream (amazing flavours), and played crazy golf. Our dogs on leads were able to be outside or inside, and we could stay comfortably as long as we wanted.

Lovely venue for a cuppa and to take in the Melton views. We also enjoyed a game of crazy golf on a stunning course. Very clean, lovely customer service and ample parking. We also saw a baby lamb being born, which was a real highlight to the visit. Will be coming again.

Very lovely place to come, lots of different food and drink options other than ice cream but is all very good! Plenty of stuff to keep kids busy and lots of open space. Plus great parking if not too busy.

Such a relaxed environment to bring the kids to. Very clean, friendly and so much choice on the menu, in fact we were spoilt for choice. I had the vegetarian quiche which was served with chips and a side salad. The miniature golf is good value and play barn is great for toddlers. Lots of space to seat both indoor and out. Definitely family friendly, pet friendly and inclusive. A lovely assortment of take home ice cream flavours and an excellent selection of home made chutneys nd sauces as well as souvenirs and gifts. I'd definitely recommend Fernleys for a family day out.
